Castro Marim

Overlooking the River Guadiana on the Portuguese side of the border with Spain, Castro Marim is set in rolling hills with wonderful mountain, river and sea views and offers golfers of all handicaps a real challenge. Well worth playing and we get great feedback. Watch out for tight greens, narrow fairways and plenty of water!

Starting with a par 4, the narrow downhill fairway lined with trees drops away, then climbs again to the raised green. The par 5 3rd is a dog-leg right with a carry across a lake, whilst the par 5 4th is a dog-leg left with a lake to the right which might just catch you out! Water comes into play again on the 5th with a small lake protecting the green.

The par 4 11th on the back nine again has water protecting the green and careful selection of club is necessary not to get caught out. The par 3 17th is protected by bunkers at the front and a lake at the back and wind nearly always comes into play here. You finish on a challenging par 5 with bunkers surrounding the green.

A new 9 holes will be open in April 2008. This nine looks to be even better than the original eighteen with a good layout and nicely shaped between the hills. We're looking forward to playing it!
